The term URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. Which is basically the identity and location of a website, file and or any other piece of content on the web. You can find the URL of a webpage in the address bar at the top of your browser.
A URL can be broken down into three main parts,
- The Protocol eg; http://
- The Domain Name eg www.yourwebsite.com
- The Web Page, file and file type. /category/webpage.php
It would be fair to say that everything on the web has a URL associated to it, Using URL's is how the web links together, The internet is a whole bunch of URL's linking together, that is why you will also hear the term "Links" used a lot on the web. You basically have webpages linking together with URL's, There is a lot more you could say about URL's and Protocols and so on, but you really don't need to concern yourself to much with a lot of the real techy stuff.
