I Havn't Blogged Here In A While.

I Don't use this Free blog very often,
So if you find this blog but want to read my full time blog you can find me by visiting http://www.globalevangelists.com/
I have also set up a personal blog, where I talk about little side projects that I have going, but that blog is very new so there's not really a lot to see there at the moment either.
I haven't actually told anyone about that blog yet other than a single post on face book, so I am pretty keen to see how long it takes for people to find it and see some traffic coming to the site.
If you find it leave a comment and let me know how you came across it.
God Bless.

Changing The Default Gmail Email Settings For Sending Mail

By default your Google Gmail account sends your emails using the "@Gmail.com" email address, But did you know you can change the default settings in Gmail so every time you send out an email from your Gmail account, it appears to the recipient of your email you have sent your message from a different email address? Let's assume that I have already completed the steps for sending mail from Gmail using your domain name, and now I want to send the bulk of my emails from my @globalevangelists.com email address. Normally, I'd have to manually choose this email address every time I want to send an email by clicking on the "Drop Down" box in the "From" sender information area. But because I want to use this email address for the majority of my emails, having to manually choose this specific email account every time, seems very impracticle. So to make it easy for me to automatically send out the bulk of my emails from my @globalevangelists.com email address, I simply need to make it my default email address in Gmail. The rest of this post is all about changing the default settings in Gmail, so you can simply forget about what email address you have to use everytime you send out an email. To change the default email setting in Gmail, log into your Gmail account and click on the "Settings" link in the top left hand corner of your Gmail admin area. [...]

How To Set Up A New Google Account.

There are some things online, you simply can't go without, and having a Google account, in my opinion is one of them, the tools and services Google currently offers are essentials if you want to set up a solid foundation for your online ministry. Usually the first step I like to take in setting up an account with Google is to set up a Gmail account. The first place to start is the Google home page, to go to the Google home page type into your browsers address bar www.Google.com (your address bar is at the very top of your browser, see the image below.) browsersadressbarIn the top left hand side of the Google home page you will see some links for various Google services and products, Click on the "Gmail" link to get started.clickonthegmaillinkIn the next screen that opens up, on the right hand side you will see a form where you can sign into an existing Google account and a button that has the words "Create An Account", Because this article is about setting up a new Google account we want to click on the "Create An Accoun [...]

What Is A Web Browser?

A Web browser is basically a software that takes various coding languages, that would otherwise be, to the code illiterate, hard to read and understand, and reforms the code in a easily readable and graphic form. Some of the most popular web browsers that you may of heard of are, Internet Explorer, Fire Fox, Safari, Opera and Flock, but there are so many more web browsers available today on the Internet. A web browser usually comes pre-installed on your computer when you purchase, if you buy a PC the default web browser is usually Internet Explorer, with Mac it's Safari. When you open your web browser to surf the web, what you are seeing is the translation of the code that makes up the webpage and not the actual code itself. As an example, to see this page you would of opened your webbrowser, you would be seeing the content on your computer screen in the same way you would see a page in a book or magazine, but the code that makes the text on your screen readable and easy to understand looks nothing like what you are actually looking at. To show you what I'm talking about here is a screen shot of Googles home page. googlehomepageNow if we take a look at the code that makes up the exact same Google home page, you would be looking at something like this... googlehomepagecode So as you can see from the two screen shots above, your web browser really does change the way you view [...]

What Do You Do With The Time You Spend Online.

Recently I read an article by Darren Rowse at Problogger.net titled 22 Why Reasons People Go Online, As a Christian and especially someone who is trying to promote building ministries online, I found the information in Darren's article very interesting, so I thought I'd like to share with you some ideas on how you can use your website and or social media accounts to accommodate the members in your church or ministry. I think if we look outside the box and try to think about how we can best serve our brothers and sisters, there is a valuable lesson to be learned from what I'm about to share with you. The image below is a screen shot taken from www.ruderfinn.com, What your looking at is simply a graph explaining what people do with their time spent on the Internet. If you look at it closely, you will notice some very interesting stats. timewheel Basically, the darker areas, closer to the edge of the wheel are the more popular reasons why people go online. Here's a breakdown of the top 10 reasons for people spending time online...
  • Pass Time 100%
  • Educate Self 96%
  • Connect 92%
  • Research 89%
  • Share 86%
  • Be Entertained 82%
  • Keep Informed 79%
  • Discuss 76%
  • Be Part Of A Community 72%

What Is Gmail?

The most obvious way to answer "What is Gmail?" would be, Gmail is a free email service provided by Google.com.whatisgmail I would like to add that Gmail offers so much more than just free email, But before I share with you what other functions Gmail has, I should cover some of the more obvious things about Gmail. As I previously mentioned, Gmail is a free email service provided by Google, It's just like any other email client, where you can send and recieve emails, and like many other email clients, Gmail gives you the ability to search through your emails inbox in a similar way that you would use Google to search the web. Gmail is also a great email management system, By that I mean, you can have multiple email address coming into one Gmail account and alternitively you can also send from any of your email accounts from the one Gmail account. For example I have a half dozen email addresses, all filtering into my one Gmail account, I reguarly recieve emails to about four of those email address, But I only ever have to check one main Gmail account, which alternitively also allows me to send emails from any one of my other email addresses, all from my one Gmail account, and all without anyone ever knowing I am using Gmail. Having a Gmail account also allows you the freedom to access your emails from any computer that has internet access, and with the the ability to access the web like never before ie; with mobile devices such as iphone and blackberry etc... it makes staying up to date with your emails easier than ever. Gmail also has a fantastic filtering system, so you can als [...]

How To Set Up A Twitter Account

Twitter is another fantastic service you can take advantage of in your online ministry, It's great for easily and quickly sharing your thoughts, favorite websites and scriptures. It's also great for sending out short and concise messages, ie; prayer request's or announcements. In this lesson I want to show you how you can easily set up an account with twitter. The first step is to go to the twitter home page. www.twitter.com On the twitter homepage you should see a Big Green button with the text "Get Started-Join" in the middle of the page "Click" on it to start the process of setting up your twitter account. newtwitteraccount The next step is to fill in your personal details,
  • Full Name.
  • Desired Username.
  • Password.
  • Email Address.
  • and the Capture Image text.
twitterdetailsIn the next step you will be asked if you would like to find any of your friends in your email's contacts list who maybe already using twitter, I don't usually worry about this step, So I choose to skip it, you can skip this step by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page, you can always come back and do this step later if you prefer or... Simply type in your email account details, ie; Username and Password and Twitter [...]

How To Create A Pretty URL For Wordpress

When you install your Wordpress site, the default URL's are quite ugly and are not really any good for your overall site optimization, (If your not sure what a URL is you can read my post titled "What Is A URL?".) For example, the default URL's look something like this, http://www.globalevangelists.com/?p=123 Take a look at the end of the URL, Notice the "/?p=123", Everything after the trailing "/"  is the title of your category, page or post. Leaving your site set up with the default URL settings has a a few disadvantages that you may want to address.
  1. Your site is not set up for search engine optimization.
  2. You make it harder for your visitors to find or recognize specific web pages.
  3. and It makes it harder for you to manage your pages.
Changing the way your URL's look is simply a matter of changing your permalinks within the settings section of your Wordpress site. To change the permalinks all you do is log into your Wordpress admin area. Once your logged in, look to the left of your administrators dashboard and look under the "Settings" tab and look for "Permalinks". Click on the "Permalinks" link. clickonpermalinks The next screen you will see is something similar to the screenshot below. [...]

Blog Update From Jeremy

Over the next few days I will be away from my computer more than I normally would, And although I fully intend on adding a regular input of daily posts, you may notice that some of them may be a little shorter than usual.goingaway Some of the posts I have planned over the next week will be covering some of the basic's and fundamental's of setting up some of your social accounts and some basic Wordpress stuff. But... I will be trying to share with you some great resources and info through twitter, purely because of the efficiency of micro blogging. So if you want to stay up to date with some great resources through my twitter feed you can find me at www.twitter.com/jeremy_young I usually spend the first and last few hours of my day on Twitter and Facebook, So please join me.

Still covering a lot of the basics new post titled what is a URL added to my site. http://tiny.cc/HpmeB

What Is A Url?

The term URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. Which is basically the identity and location of a website, file and or any other piece of content on the web. You can find the URL of a webpage in the address bar at the top of your browser. yoururl A URL can be broken down into three main parts,
  1. The Protocol eg; http://
  2. The Domain Name eg www.yourwebsite.com
  3. The Web Page, file and file type. /category/webpage.php
It would be fair to say that everything on the web has a URL associated to it, Using URL's is how the web links together, The internet is a whole bunch of URL's linking together, that is why you will also hear the term "Links" used a lot on the web. You basically have webpages linking together with URL's, There is a lot more you could say about URL's and Protocols and so on, but you really don't need to concern yourself to much with a lot of the real techy stuff. But, If you do want to dig a little deeper into the meaning of URL's, Here's a link to Wikipedia's description of what a URL is. Go To Wikipedia

Lunch With Des.

Today I spent an hour with Des Walsh from www.thinkinghomebusiness.com.
Great coffee and conversation with Des sharing some of his incredible wisdom with me.
Some of the things we talked about were the importance of finding your niche and the importance of the passion you need for it to be successful and to be able to stick with your site for the long term.
Des shared some of his old niches and I mine.
and he also mentioned the bloggers convention in Las Vegas towards the end of the year.
I will have to keep that in mind and hopefully find myself in the USA this year, Fingers Crossed.
I just have to figure out how I can get my missus to like the Idea.
